OUR STORY:

Keepers of the Flag Bed and Breakfast is our dream come true.  As Bed and Breakfast guests ourselves, we tried to incorporate what we liked, what we expected, and our unique talents and contributions to make our Bed and Breakfast a one of a kind experience for you, our future guest.  The best part of having our dream come true is sharing it with wonderful people traveling through our beautiful part of the world.

We purchased our little corner of the mountain in 1983, only guessing at the beautiful views that lay below through the trees.  Steve's first thought was that it was the perfect location for a huge American flag to fly proudly for all the world to see.

Old Flag PoleIn 2002 we erected our first flagpole, a majestic 100 foot solid red cedar pole which proudly supported the unfurling of our 30 by 60 foot flags for nearly five years.  Unfortunately, our flagpole was struck by lightning and ruined in late June of 2007.

In May 2008 we began the preparations to erect our replacement pole, a 130 foot steel structure (hopefully one that will survive the inevitable lightning strikes that being the tallest thing on top of the mountain is likely to attract). Click the flag images to the left to visit our photo gallery to see images of the flag raising ceremony.

We opened Keepers of the Flag B&B in June of 2005 in our red cedar home which we custom designed at Beaver Mountain Log and Cedar Homes located in nearby Hancock, New York.

Our Bed and Breakfast was established with the goal of providing a unique and very comfortable alternative to the cookie-cutter motels and chain hotels for discriminating travelers Distance Shotwho enjoy the very best accommodations, a homey atmosphere, and personalized, friendly treatment.

It is our mission to provide our guests with homey,  carefully appointed amenities in a beautiful and relaxing setting while they have an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view of  the valley below.  Within that view is the confluence of the Susquehanna and Unadilla Rivers, Interstate 88, the village of Sidney, and the beautiful foothills of the western Catskill mountains.Mug

The nicest people in the world stay in our guest rooms and enjoy delicious homemade breakfasts.  Each guest room has a queen sized bed with excellent quality mattress, Egyptian cotton sheets (which are ironed by hand with lavender water for your sleeping comfort), and hand stitched quilts.  Guests have private entrances, access to a  kitchenette available 24 hours a day, wireless Internet, and satellite television.  Guests from all over the world have praised our amazing cinnamon buns, Belgian waffles, and other homemade breakfast specialties.

We proudly feature exquisite handmade coffee mugs from Deneen Pottery of Minneapolis.  We encourage you to visit them at www.cloth-clay.com.  Our friends at American Flag Store are also a wonderful resource.   Visit them at www.americanflagstore.com.
